Ahead of the 2027 presidential election, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), led by the Taminu Turaki‑led faction, has cleared former president Goodluck Jonathan as its sole presidential candidate, NATIONAL POST can report.
The screening committee announced Mr Jonathan’s emergence on Tuesday following the completion of the screening exercise. The committee was chaired by former Niger State Governor Babangida Aliyu.
Meanwhile, a chieftain of the PDP, Umar Sani, has confirmed that Mr Jonathan purchased the party’s nomination form. Mr Sani made the disclosure during an appearance on Trust TV on Tuesday.
According to him, Mr Jonathan’s actions indicate a serious interest in returning to partisan politics ahead of the next presidential election.
“In politics, what is important is action. If you are interested, there are processes you have to follow, one of which is the procurement of nomination forms. He has done that,” Mr Sani said.
When asked whether Mr Jonathan had indeed obtained the form, Mr Sani replied: “Yes, and in fact, he is about to come and submit the forms publicly.”
