THE All Progressives Congress (APC) reaffirmed its leadership structure in the early hours of Saturday, retaining key figures in its National Working Committee (NWC) following the party’s 8th National Convention in Abuja.
Professor Nentawe Yilwatda was confirmed as National Chairman, with Senator Surajudeen Ajibola Basiru continuing as National Secretary. Aare Durotolu Oyebode Bankole also retained his position as National Leader for Persons with Disabilities, underscoring a theme of continuity within the party’s top echelons.
The convention, held in the nation’s capital, saw a blend of stability and strategic change. A notable elevation saw Dr Benjamin Obi Nwoye appointed to the post of Deputy National Chairman (South).
Party insiders indicated that the final list, which was arrived at by consensus, was shaped by considerations of unity and zoning, with governors playing a significant role in influencing positions allocated to states.
In his acceptance remarks, Professor Yilwatda pledged to deepen unity within the party and advance national development. “We are ready to serve, ready to lead, and we are ready to build the party, together with the nation,” he said.
The high-profile event drew top government officials, including President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima. The newly constituted NWC features a mix of returning and new members, combining fresh expertise with institutional continuity to steer the party.
Political analysts noted that the convention demonstrated the APC’s capacity to manage internal interests through consensus, a move aimed at positioning the party for future electoral success. According to officials, attention will now shift to policy direction, party expansion, and preparations for upcoming elections.
The full list of NWC members includes key officers overseeing portfolios such as publicity, welfare, youth, and legal departments, reinforcing the party’s focus on stability and growth.
