NIGERIAN comedian and filmmaker Ayo Makun, popularly known as AY, has called out banks for their frequent deductions from customers’ accounts, questioning the source of their massive profits amidst economic struggles.
In a post on his social media handle, AY wondered how banks consistently declare trillions in profits despite the country’s economic challenges.
He argued that the numerous small charges and debits on customers’ accounts contribute significantly to the banks’ profits and urged that these fees be challenged.
AY pointed out that many of these charges are unique to Nigeria, sparking further inquiry into the banking system’s practices.
He wrote:
“Where do banks get the trillions they declare as profits every quarter, even in a struggling economy? The small charges and debits on our accounts need to be challenged. Many of these fees are unique to Nigeria. Why is that?”
