Bayelsa Govt Floods State With 410,000 Litres Of PMS To Sell At N190/Litre

Rita Enemuru, Reporting

THERE’S palpable relief across Bayelsa State as Governor Duoye Diri has flooded filling stations with 410,000 litres of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) to cushion the biting effect of scarcity.

The government purchased the petrol which arrived in Yenagoa in a barge from Port Harcourt, Rivers State on Thursday night.

Stonix News reports that the state has IDPs in their thousands following the devastating effects of flooding across the state in the last two months.

The submerged towns and communities as well as the cutting off of the state via the ruined East West road led to hike in pump price to the tune of N350 per litre.

However, the Commissioner for Mineral Resources, Dr Ebieri Jones, on Friday after the arrival of the barge, said the PMS that would be distributed to various petrol stations in the Yenagoa metropolis would be sold at the rate of N190 per litre to motorists, commuters and residents.

He described it as part of the government’s strategies to discourage hoarding of PMS and disallow people from turning the streets of Yenagoa into a fuel black market.

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Oil and Gas, Hon. Franklin Otele, was also on ground to receive the product which is currently being dispatched to filling stations for onward sale.
