Ola ‘Kiya, Reporting
IN a crusade-like gathering, a few angry youths, on Monday, in Oyo State began registering their hunger with protest on the streets of Ibadan, the state capital.
They were seen beside the Mokola flyover singing choruses and clapping their hands to provide rhythm and beat.
Their grouse is the unending high cost of living, food inflation and the current general economic hardship in the country.
The protesters were armed with placards with varying inscriptions as the gathering that started small began to swell.
Some of the placards have inscriptions such as ‘End food hike and inflation’, ‘The poor are starving’ and ‘Tinubu, don’t forget your promises’, among others.
Amid the protest, armed policemen were seen at the scene as demonstrators held the peaceful rally against the economic hardship in the land.
It will be recalled that the current hardship was partly occasioned by the removal of petrol subsidy and the unification of the foreign exchange windows.
The police on Sunday had earlier warned that no breach of the peace would be allowed during any protest in the state.
Stonix News reports that the ongoing protest in Ibadan was sequel to those of Kano, Minna and Oshogbo, among others, over economic hardship.
