FOLLOWING the recent increase in the price of cooking gas in Nigeria, some residents of Koko community in Warri North Local Government Area, Delta State have decried the situation.
Some respondents bemoaned the sudden increment and the unstable nature of the price in the market.
Mr. Philip Daibo, one of the respondents, revealed that the current price of 1kg of the product in Koko is N1100.
“I just filled up my 12kg gas cylinder with N13, 200. This is worrisome and I must ask, where are we going in this country,” he said.
Another respondent, Mr. Moyowa Etsedo, observed that with the incessant hike in price of the product in the country, most Nigerians will end up looking for alternatives.
“The increase in cooking gas has been reccurring for some time now and this has brought about huge financial burden on us.
“Presently, it is difficult to sustain this method of cooking now with the increase and most of us are looking for alternatives to mitigate the economic hardship in the country,” he lamented.
Others called on the government to expedite action in addressing the trend as most Nigerians have been accustomed to using the product as a source of cooking.
“The only way out for government to bring respite to Nigerians on the issue is to introduce subsidy on cooking gas for us, since most Nigerians make use of the product.
“We breathed a sigh of relief when the price dropped at one time. But just recently, the price was hiked again.
“The government must quickly do something, since we are currently battling with the removal of subsidy from petrol” another respondent, Mrs Omasan Omatsuli, opined.
Mrs. Shola Mattu, another worried resident, called on the government to implement people-friendly policies that will cater for the basic needs of the ordinary Nigerian.
“The Federal Government should look into the issue immediately, we can no longer cope, the economic situation in the country has created a huge difference in our wages and our expenditures.
“If the cooking gas which is the present mode of cooking is beyond the reach of most Nigerians, it shows that the government needs to do more, ” she emphasized.
The residents also urged the President Bola Tinubu-led Federal Government to curb the insane increase in the exchange rate of naira to a dollar.
They noted that it has negatively affected practically everything in the country.
