REDEMPTION CAMP, Nigeria – Renowned General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye, delivered a stirring message on the third day of the church’s 73rd Annual Convention, urging believers to “overcome themselves” if they truly desire lasting victory in life.

The theme of the convention is The Overcomers taken from IJohn 4 verse 4.

'Don’t Be Your Own Enemy,' Adeboye Tells Thousands

Addressing thousands gathered at Redemption City and millions more tuning in online, Pastor Adeboye’s sermon, themed Overcome Yourself, centred on Proverbs 16:32: “He that is slow to anger is better than the mighty; and he that ruleth his spirit than he that taketh a city.”

The revered preacher challenged worshippers to examine their inner lives, warning that the greatest enemy of any believer is often not the devil, but the person in the mirror.

“If you want to be a champion forever,” he said, “you must do something about your weak point. Moses had anger issues, and that became his downfall. Don’t let your weakness be your destruction.”

Five Areas to Watch

Pastor Adeboye identified five key areas that every Christian must bring under divine control:

1. Your Ears

Quoting Romans 10:17, he emphasised that both faith and fear come by hearing.

“It’s not just how you listen, but how well you listen,” he said.

He cautioned the congregation to filter what they allow into their hearts through their ears, stressing the importance of hearing the word of God above all else.

2. Your Eyes

“Victory is not in what you see, but how you see it,” Pastor Adeboye declared, referencing the story of the Israelite spies in Numbers 13.

While ten spies saw giants and saw themselves as grasshoppers, only Joshua and Caleb saw the land through eyes of faith.

“Don’t focus on the mountain; focus on the Mountain Mover,” he added.

3. Your Mouth

Words, he warned, can make or break destinies.

“What you say is what you’ll have,” Pastor Adeboye taught, urging worshippers to avoid grumbling and instead use their mouths to praise, pray, and proclaim God’s promises.

“Your mouth is for decreeing victory, not declaring defeat.”

4. Your Hands

Stressing purity and integrity, he admonished the faithful:

“Don’t sign false documents. Don’t touch the unclean thing. If you keep your hands clean, God will stand by you.”

5. Your Legs

Challenging the crowd on their use of time and movement, he asked pointedly,

“Are your legs running to do evil or are they carrying the gospel?”

He encouraged believers to engage more in evangelism and righteousness.

The Real Enemy Within

In a heartfelt moment, Pastor Adeboye highlighted how even great men like Moses could fall when they fail to overcome personal weaknesses.

He recalled how Moses’ unchecked anger ultimately cost him entry into the Promised Land.

“The enemy took note of his weakness and waited. One day, he lost his temper, and the enemy rejoiced,” he said somberly.

Salvation Call and Prayer

As the message drew to a close, Pastor Adeboye extended a call to salvation.

“Jesus is the only One who can save you — even from yourself,” he said, inviting all who had not surrendered their lives to Christ to ask for mercy and forgiveness.

He then led the congregation in a prayer: “Father, don’t let me be my own enemy.”

Meanwhile, earlier, the Ifewara-born octogenarian had announced that as of Wednesday, no fewer than 17 fresh babies were born out of which 14 were boys and girls three. This, according to him, brings the total new born babies since the convention started on Monday to 50, out of which 34 are boys and 16 girls.
