DR Congo President Felix Tshisekedi has canceled a crisis meeting with Rwanda’s President Paul Kagame, scheduled for today, Wednesday, January 29, 2025, after Rwanda-backed fighters seized control of the key city of Goma.
Stonix News reports that the M23 armed group took control of Goma’s airport early this week, after days of clashes that killed more than 100 people and wounded nearly 1,000.

As of the time of filing this report, it remained unclear how much of the provincial capital was under the control of Congolese forces versus the Rwandan-backed M23, which claimed it had taken the city on Sunday.
According to UN refugee agency, violence in the mineral-rich North Kivu province around Goma has forced half a million people from their homes since the start of the year.
