Stonix News‘ checks Saturday morning showed that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) portal for the submission of result sheets is down.
The official portal with the web address, https://inecelectionresults.com/login, when visited at 10:01a m on Saturday reported the following error message: “This site can’t be reached”.
The platform, first used in the various bye-elections in 2020, was fully deployed for the Edo State governorship election in September 2020 and the Ondo State election in October of the same year.
Meanwhile voting has already commenced at various polling units in today’s governorship election in Ekiti State.
In previous elections such as the Anambra State governorship election last year, the portal proved useful in monitoring election results counted at the polling units correspond with what was submitted to INEC.
This helped ensure the integrity and transparency of the election process.
However, this prospect appears to be in jeopardy with a non-functioning portal as of the time of this report.
The platform is expected to complement the INEC’s new guidelines and Biomodal Voter Accreditation System, BVAS, which was designed to inject technological impetus into the nation’s electoral system.
The BVAS was first deployed in the Isoko South Constituency 1 of Delta State election held on September 11, 2021 and then in the Anambra gubrr election of November 9, 2021 and the FCT Area Council elections of February 12, 2022.
