ENDSARS: FEC Jacks Up Take-Home Pay By 20% For Police

The Federal Executive Council (FEC), on Wednesday, approved what it termed a “peculiar allowance” for the police to take off from January 2022.

This is coming some 26 months after the ENDSARS outrage by Nigerian youths on the shoddy treatment of the file and rank of the Nigeria Police and established extra-judicial killings by disbanded SARS outfit.

The allowance, FEC said, would increase police personnel take-home pay by 20 per cent of their present earning.

The council was presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari at the presidential villa, Abuja on Wednesday.

The highest decision-making body also approved the review of police duty tour allowance to six per cent as well as the release of N1.2 billion for the payment of uninsured benefits.

FEC also approved N1.2 billion for the payment of outstanding allowances.

Minister of Police Affairs, Maigari Dingyadi, did the briefing of correspondents after the council meeting.

He said the approval was in consonance with President Buhari’s promise to enhance police personnel pay as demanded by #EndSARS protesters.
