SUSPECTED herdsmen have invaded Agbeta Community in Rivers State, kidnapped a 33-year-old housewife identified as Constance Kakiri and demanded N10 million ransom.
The husband of the woman, Precious Kakiri told Stonix News that the incident occurred on their way from their farmland on Thursday, April 02, 2024.
Mr Kakiri narrating his ordeal, said that the herdsmen ran out from the bushes, on that fateful day, pounced on them with arms, wounded him and made away with his wife in her attempt to escape.
“Two of Fulani herdsmen ran out from the bush and attacked us with arms and cutlass in defence, I asked my wife to escape unknowingly to me that there were more inside the bush and as she ran to seek refuge, they overpowered me, injured me with cutlass and sticks while others cart-away with my wife, up till now I don’t know the whereabouts of my wife.
“When the news got to the community, the youths mobilised and went in search of my wife and she’s nowhere to be found as I speak to you, those herdsmen called on Friday demanding ten million Naira ransom which a peasant farmer like me can’t afford,” he narrated.
Meanwhile, the Queen Mother of Ebubu land, Emere’Owa Ada Ejire has lamented over the lack of security as headsmen often interrupted them during farming season and time of harvesting.
According to her, It is either these cows of the herdsmen who destroy their crops, steal things from the or rape or rape their women.
“It has gone worst to the point of kidnapping and chasing us out from our lands in the midst of hunger and starvation.
“The other day it was a woman from Ogoniland living in Ebubu and today it’s Precious Kakiri’s wife,” she lamented.
She, therefore, called on the Governor of Rivers State, the Eleme Concile Chairman, Chief Obari Ollormaté Ollor, and all the security agencies to come to the rescue of Ebubu Women as they can no longer sleep with two eyes closedd.
All attempts to speak with the Eleme Divisional Police proved abortive as of the time of filing the report.
