The Delta State Police Command has arrested a 54-year-old man for allegedly defiling his three daughters, ages 13, 15, and 24.
The Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, revealed this in a video made available to Stonix News on Saturday.
According to Edafe, the disturbing case came to light following a proactive police initiative carried out by the Divisional Police Officer of Ogborikoko Police Command, DPO Temi Zuokumor.
He said that DPO Zuokumor conducted an outreach programme at some schools where she encouraged young girls to speak up if molested.
After the outreach, the suspect’s 13-year-old daughter opened up about what her father had been doing to her, which immediately led to his arrest.
The PPRO said: “When the friend asked the man’s daughter why she was crying, the girl opened up about her father having a sexual relationship with her. “Her friend also told her that the father did it to her when she came visiting, and that was why she stopped coming to visit her friend.”
The police spokesman stated that the daughter’s ordeal led to the arrest of the father, and during the investigation, it was learnt that the man was also doing the same with his other two daughters.
In an interview with the police, it was discovered that the suspect, identified as Edward Ogega, was also sleeping with his other two daughters.
Speaking, he said that he has been sleeping with his daughters for seven years.
“My name is Edward Ngozi Ogega. I am 54 years old. I have been sleeping with my daughters for seven years now.
“I have three daughters and I have slept with all of them,” he said.
Speaking with the eldest daughter (name withheld), who is now 24 years old, she revealed that the suspect started molesting her when she was just 12 years old.
“My dad started sleeping with me when I was in Primary six and when I was 12 years old.
“I couldn’t report it because I was ashamed.
“I was thinking that it was an abomination to speak out about such a thing.
“I never knew he was doing the same thing to my siblings until recently when the DPO went to my younger sister’s school,” she said.
The 15-year-old daughter, who opened up to her friend before the matter became known, said that she started crying when the DPO came to their school to counsel them on exposing wrong things.
She stated: “I told my classmate that my father was defiling me.”
The PPRO said that the Commissioner of Police, Olufemi Abaniwonda, has ordered further investigation into the case.
Further investigations also revealed that the suspect has also molested some of his daughters’ friends.
