How I Broke Up My Uncle’s Marriage’ — Adeboye Confesses

THE General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has recounted how, as a child, he once caused the separation of his uncle and his wife after she maltreated him, using the story to illustrate how God can transform even the most troubled lives.

Adeboye, 83, shared the account on Saturday while delivering a sermon on the fifth day of the Holy Ghost Congress 2025 at the Redemption City along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway in Ogun State.

The week-long programme is themed ‘God of All Flesh’.

Addressing thousands of worshippers, including traditional rulers, the cleric said the incident from his childhood was part of a past he is not proud of, stressing that his life stands as proof that no one is beyond God’s saving grace.

Reflecting on his early years, Adeboye noted that many people who knew him as a young man never believed he could become a pastor, even after he claimed to have turned a new leaf.

“Do you think there is anybody in your family who is too far gone for God to save? Do you think there is anyone God cannot turn into a great vessel unto honour?” he asked.

“Many people never thought I could be saved. Even if I was saved, they never believed I could be a pastor. I am not proud of my past; if one could be bad, I was bad.”

He recalled an encounter with a former girlfriend who once came looking for a pastor and was stunned when he introduced himself as the pastor.

“She said, ‘You, a pastor? You mean you will pray and God will answer?’” Adeboye said.

The cleric also narrated a later meeting with a former university classmate he had not seen since 1967, noting that both were surprised by how his life had turned out.

Returning to the childhood incident, Adeboye said he later reconciled with his uncle’s wife after becoming the General Overseer of the church, adding that all her children are now pastors within the RCCG.

He concluded by urging believers not to give up on anyone, insisting that no life is too broken for God to redeem.

“There is nobody God cannot save,” he said.
