A falling 300-year-old tree has killed no fewer than six persons and injured others following a heavy rainstorm in Oko Community, Delta State, Nigeria.
The incident occurred on Wednesday night in the community located in Oshimili South Local Government Area of the oil-rich state.
The windy rain forced residents of the community to scamper to safety.
The ancient tree reportedly crashed into two houses, killed the victims and left members of the community in mourning.
Meanwhile, the Delta State government has expressed sadness over the development and a similar one around the Okotomi area of Okpanam, Oshimili North Local Government Area of the state.
The state’s Commissioner of Information, Charles Aniagwu, who conveyed the government’s condolences to the victims and their families, said the injured were being treated at the Asaba Specialist Hospital.
He said the government would continue to clear debris as well as cut down trees that may pose a serious threat to lives and properties.
