THE ex-queen of the Ooni of Ife, Naomi Silekunola, along with the Principal of Islamic High School in Ibadan, Fasasi Abdulahi, and six others have all been taken into custody following the stampede at a funfair, on Wednesday, that took the innocent lives of some children.

Stonix News had earlier reported that the event, held at Basorun Islamic High School, was intended to cater to 5,000 beneficiaries, offering the cash gifts and fun in anticipation of the festive season.

Sources said the venue was filled with scores of children who had answered the Clarion call to come for the gift, but met their deaths due to poor crowd management.

According to a statement issued on Thursday by Oyo State Police Public Relations Officer, Adewale Osifeso, the number of children who have died from the stampede has risen to 35 while six others are in critical conditions.

Stonix News gathered that other arrested individuals include Tanimowo Moruf, 52, Abiola Oluwatimilehin, 25, Idowu Ibrahim, 35, Anisolaja Olabode, 42, and 24-year-old Genesis Christopher.
The statement reads:
“So far, 35 minors have been documented dead while six others are critically injured and on various medical interventions.

“In furtherance of the above, the case has since been transferred to the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department, Iyaganku, with the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge, leading the investigations.

“The Oyo State Police Command sympathizes with all the families and loved ones affected by the tragedy and assures the good people of the state that justice will be served accordingly.”
