THE Delta State Police Command has reiterated its ban on the use, sale, and display of fireworks and other pyrotechnics during the Yuletide season.
Commissioner of Police (CP), Olufemi Abaniwonda, stated that the measure is essential for maintaining public safety and reducing crime.

“Fireworks can be exploited by criminal elements to cause panic and harm. This ban is a necessary step to protect our communities,” he said in a statement released on 19th December 2024.
Parents, guardians, and retailers have been warned to comply with the directive or face prosecution.
“We urge parents to guide their children and warn retailers to remove these items from their shelves. Violators will not be spared,” said Police Public Relations Officer SP Edafe Bright.
The warning comes as authorities aim to prevent incidents of misuse that could escalate during the festive period.
The command has mobilised its officers to ensure compliance, with CP Abaniwonda instructing all Area Commanders and Tactical Commanders to strictly enforce the ban in their areas of jurisdiction.

“Our officers are fully prepared to monitor and address any violations to maintain peace,” the CP remarked.
Residents have also been encouraged to report violations using dedicated police hotlines provided in the announcement.
As the Yuletide season approaches, the Delta Police Command has expressed its gratitude to the public for their cooperation.
“We appreciate the support of all Deltans in upholding this directive and wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year,” said SP Edafe, urging residents to prioritise safety and report any suspicious activities promptly.
