Iranian Footballer Faces Death Sentence

Michael Chukwuebuka, Reporting..

FORMER Tractor FC player, Amir Nasr-Azadani, has been charged and sentenced to death by the Iranian government over his involvement in an anti-goverment protest in the country.

The International Federation of Professional Footballers (FIFPro), confirmed the execution in an official statement released on Monday, 12th of December, via their verified twitter handle.

“FIFPRO is shocked and sickened by reports that professional footballer Amir Nasr-Azadani faces execution in Iran after campaigning for women’s right and basic freedom in his country.

“We stand in solidarity with Amir and call for immediate removal of his punishment”, the statement reads.

According to reports, the 26-year-old Amir Nasr-Azadani, amid ongoing Qatar FIFA World Cup, got involved in a protest against the Iranian government, after a 22-year-old woman, Mahsa Amini, was allegedly detained and tortured to death for failing to adhere to the country’s dress code for women.

Stonix News recalled that on the 17th of November, 2022, an Anti-goverment protest struck Iran, which brought about the death of one Colonel Esmaeil Cheraghi and two other members of Basij: the government militia.

Also, report reaching Stonix News suggested that the Iranian government may be trying to frame Amir Nasr-Azadani for the death of the three military officers who died during the heavy protest.

As of the time of filing this report, no official statement from neither the football governing body (FIFA), nor Iranian Football Federation/Association had been made.
