PANIC gripped Yenagoa on Thursday after the Bayelsa State Deputy Governor, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, reportedly collapsed in his office and was immediately rushed to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Yenagoa.
According to a report by Vanguard, the incident occurred at about 1:30 p.m., prompting a swift emergency response from his aides and security personnel, who conveyed him to the hospital.
Witnesses said the deputy governor appeared to be in a serious condition upon arrival at the hospital’s emergency unit. He is, however, said to be stabilising in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
As of the time of filing this report, there has been no official statement regarding his condition.
A source close to the deputy governor, who described him as a “workaholic,” suggested that his demanding schedule may have taken a toll. “He’s a workaholic; he should find time to rest,” the source said.
Security operatives have since cordoned off parts of the hospital, while top government officials have been arriving to show support.
Efforts to reach the deputy governor’s media aide, Mr Doubara Atasi, were unsuccessful.
Hospital insiders told Vanguard that the deputy governor was receiving optimal medical care and remained in stable condition.
