PRESIDENT of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Joseph Ajaero, has been released on bail by the Department of State Services (DSS).
Ajaero was arrested on Monday morning at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja on his way to the United Kingdom for an official assignment.
He was scheduled to participate in the Trade Union Congress conference in London, which started on Monday.
Activist and former presidential candidate of the African Action Congress, Omoyele Sowore, confirmed Ajaero’s release in a post on X/Twitter on Monday night.
Sowore stated, “The fascist regime of @officialABAT has released @NLCHeadquarters President Joe Ajaero from @OfficialDSSNG custody on bail. The @NLCHeadquarters must declare for #FearlessInOctober #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria. No Going Back.”
Earlier on Monday, the NLC had convened an emergency meeting, demanding Ajaero’s release by midnight of Monday or risk a shutdown of the ailing Nigeria economy.
