A local boat conveying about 50 passengers with goods and farm produce has capsized, leaving some passengers feared dead and others missing in Niger State.
According to sources, the tragedy occurred on Saturday morning when the victims were coming to a popular market in Zumba.
Although the actual number of casualty was not made known, a source close to Zumba market said that the wooden boat with about 50 passengers and farm produce on board capsized midway into their journey.
He affirmed that the boat took off from Iburo community at about 10:00a.m but news filtered into the market at 12:00 noon that the boat, which was number five among the boats that took off from the community, hadcapsized.
It was gathered that local divers from the community have swung into action for search and rescue of the victims.
Recalled that a similar boat accident, which claimed over 20 lives, occurred on the same waterway in 2021.
