THE committee set up to investigate the ignoble conferment of a traditional title on a repentant bandit kingpin, Adamu Aleiru, in Zamfara State, has budgeted and requested N3,293,800.00 to carry out its assignment.
Reports had it that Aleiru was conferred with the title ‘Sarkin Fulani’ but the bestowal was stopped by the Zamfara State government following an uproar from the public which necessitated the investigation.
Subsequently, the government suspended the erring Emir of Birnin ‘Yandoto of Tsafe Local Government Area in Zamfara State, Alhaji Aliyu Marafa, with immediate effect.
A statement by the Secretary to the Zamfara State Government, Kabiru Balarabe Sardauna, said government had assigned the District Head of ‘Yandoto, Alhaji Mahe Garba Marafa to take charge of the affairs of the emirate.
The budget request is contained in a letter written to the Secretary of the State and signed by the Secretary of the Committee set up to carry out the investigation, Musa Garba Bukkuyum.
Stonix News which sighted the letter dated July 21, 2022 reports that the sitting allowances for the chairman for the 14 days of the event is N420, 000; that is, N30,000 per day.
Sitting allowance for members and secretary is N20,000 per day, making it N1.4m for 14 days according to the letter.
While sitting allowances for both first and second assistant secretaries cost a total sum of N238,000, stationeries and Report, Bailiff/Witness and refreshment Expenses is pegged at N800,000.
Adding miscellaneous of about N435,800 to the list, the budget amounted to the sum of N3,293,800.00.
The letter read in part: “I humbly write to apply on behalf of the above mentioned committee for the release of funds to finance its activities which has since commenced today Thursday, 21 July, 2022.
“The total amount requested hereby is Three Million Two Hundred and Ninety Three Thousand Eight Hundred Naira (N3,293,800.00) Only and the breakdown is as follows:
1. Sitting allowances (Chairman)-N30,000.00x 14 days =N420,000.00
2. Sitting allowances (Members/Secretary)- N20,000.00 x 5 x 14 days= N1,400,000.00
3. Stationeries and Report N100,000
4. Balliff/Witness Expenses: N200,000
5. Refreshment: N500,000.
6. Sitting Allowances (Sec. Assistant I): N10,000 x 14 = N140,000.
6. Sitting Allowances (Sec. Assistant II): N10,000 x 14 = N98,000.00
7. Miscellaneous:
N435,800.00
Total: N3,293,800.00
