THERE’S tension at the national headquarters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) following the deployment of police operatives in the area.
The heightened security stemmed from a dispute over the party’s National Secretary position, contested by Samuel Anyanwu and Ude Okoye.
Supporters of both factions have also converged at the headquarters, adding to the already charged atmosphere.
The controversy began after Anyanwu contested the Imo State governorship election, where he was defeated by the incumbent.
During his absence, Ude Okoye assumed the position of National Secretary.
Upon Anyanwu’s return, a dispute arose as Okoye challenged his claim to the office, arguing that he had effectively taken over the role in Anyanwu’s absence.
A court ruling has since favoured Okoye, and the PDP National Working Committee (NWC) has officially recognised him as the party’s legitimate National Secretary.
But Anyanwu is defiant, insisting that he retains the position until the Supreme Court delivers its final verdict on the matter.
The stand-off highlights growing internal divisions within the PDP, as both sides rally their supporters in an attempt to assert control over the critical party office.
