JUST IN: Shootings At Edo Election Tribunal Venue, As APC Condemns Act

HEAVY shootings rented the air at the venue of the ongoing Edo State Governorship Election Tribunal sitting in Benin allegedly from non-state actors.

Some videos sighted by our reporter revealed a young man in khaki knickers, white fez cap, black face mask and white polo shirt on top of a black polo shirt, armed with a rifle and discharging the same to the air, intermittently.

He could be heard ranting: “Una go give us our mandate,” “we need our mandate,” several times, while he gallivanted on the road.

After volleying some pellets into the air, a white Hilux arrived at where he was standing as he hopped in and the driver, whose face was not seen, zoomed off.

In one of the footages, people were seen taking cover as the hoodlum kept ranting at the top of his voice.

Meanwhile, the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo State has condemned the shooting, accusing the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) of being responsible.

State chairman of the party, Emperor Jarret Tenebe, urged security agencies to bring the perpetrators to book.

“Today’s shooting incident within the venue of the Governorship Election Tribunal in Benin City involving members of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is a deeply disturbing and unacceptable act of violence.

“The Tribunal is a sacred space where justice is meant to be administered impartially. Any act of violence within its walls undermines the very foundation of our legal system and threatens the safety of all involved.

“Regardless of political affiliation, resorting to violence to resolve disputes is never justifiable. We must all condemn such actions in the strongest possible terms.

“Violence has no place in a civilized society, and those responsible for this heinous act must be brought to justice swiftly and without exception,” he urged.

The PDP leadership in the state has yet to react to the development.
