THE Supreme Court of Nigeria has dismissed the appeal challenging the election of Ahmad Aliyu as governor of Sokoto State.
Aliyu was the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), in the March 18 2023 governorship election in the state.
He was declared winner of the governorship election with 453,661 votes to defeat Sai’du Umar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who polled 404,632 votes.
The apex court, in a judgement read by Justice Tijani Abubakar, resolved all issues in the appeal against the appellant and in favour of the respondents.
The Apex court maintained that the lower Court was right to have affirmed the decision of the tribunal and that the appellant failed to proved to the court the issue of non-compliance.
The court maintained that the appeal was devoid of merit and thereby affirmed the decision of the lower court
