DELTA – In a major security breakthrough, the Delta State Police Command has arrested five suspected kidnappers and recovered ₦5 million in ransom money, following a series of coordinated sting operations across the state.
The operations, carried out under the directive of Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, also led to the death of six other suspects during a fierce gun duel with operatives of the CP Special Assignment Team along the Patani-Ughelli Expressway.

Weapons recovered
On 12 July 2025, at about 6:30 a.m., operatives of the Special Anti-Kidnapping and Cyber Crime Squad, led by CSP Godwin Osadolor, tracked and arrested one Sanusi Abdulahi at his hideout in Ogwashi-Uku, Oshimili North Local Government Area.
The suspect was found in possession of ₦5,000,000, confirmed to be part of the ransom collected from a recent kidnapping.
Preliminary investigations linked the arrested suspect and his gang to a string of abductions across Ibusa, Ogwashi-Uku, Obulu-Okiti, Isele-Ukwu, and Isele-Asagba.
Notably, they are alleged to have masterminded the abduction of a young woman at Ogwashi-Uku on 9 July.

Further intelligence led police operatives to Second Deputy and Oko in Asaba, where four additional suspects were apprehended. Investigations remain ongoing.
In a related development, on 9 July at approximately 8:35 a.m., the CP Special Assignment Team raided the hideout of another notorious gang along the Unenurhie axis of the Patani-Ughelli Expressway.
The suspects, including Solomon Danisco (alias Picolo), Nelson Jacob, Oruma Saturday, Olise Jude, Precious Urhobowin, and Whisky Rufus (alias Asawana), engaged police in a heated exchange of gunfire.
Six gang members sustained fatal gunshot wounds and were later confirmed dead in hospital, while two others remain under medical care.

Police recovered four locally-made firearms and 19 rounds of live cartridges from the scene.
The Delta State Police Command reaffirmed its resolve to flush out criminal elements and urged the public to remain vigilant and provide useful information.
