THE Commissioner of Police, Delta State, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, has presented cheques totalling ₦37,663,936 to the families of 35 police officers who died in active service.

Acting on behalf of the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, the funds were disbursed under the IGP Family Welfare Scheme and the Group Life Assurance programme.

The presentation ceremony took place on Tuesday, 12 August, in Asaba.

While handing over the cheques, CP Abaniwonda emphasised that the Nigeria Police Force and the nation remain grateful for the sacrifices made by the deceased officers.

He assured the families that their welfare, as well as that of serving officers, remains a top priority for the IGP.

“This gesture by the Inspector General of Police serves not only as financial support but also as a heartfelt reminder that the sacrifices of their loved ones have not been forgotten,” he said.

One of the recipients, Miss Chidinma Paul, expressed her gratitude, describing the support as timely and impactful. “We thank the IGP for his generosity. The money will be used wisely,” she said.

The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Edafe Bright, reaffirmed the commitment of the Delta State Command to supporting families of officers who have given their lives in service to the nation.
