THE Inspector-General of Police, Dr Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, today received Senator Abdul-Azeez Yaradua at the Force Headquarters, Abuja, for high-level discussions on the proposed Electoral Reform Bill aimed at enabling early voting for police officers and other security personnel deployed on election duty.

The visit, also attended by Mr Samson Itodo, Executive Director of Yiaga Africa, and Cynthia Mbamalu, Director of Programmes at Yiaga Africa, centred on seeking the IGP’s professional insight and institutional guidance to ensure the bill aligns with the operational demands of policing elections while upholding electoral integrity.

Senator Yaradua formally presented the draft bill to the IGP, seeking collaboration on provisions that would allow security personnel to vote prior to general elections, given their vital roles in securing polling units across the country.
Mr Itodo praised the Nigeria Police Force for its improved performance in recent elections in Edo and Ondo States, crediting the Force’s proactive approach for the peaceful and credible conduct of the polls. He also congratulated the IGP on his recent awards, noting these reflect his reform-minded leadership.

In response, IGP Egbetokun, joined by Deputy Inspectors-General of Police, expressed gratitude to Senator Yaradua and Yiaga Africa for their commitment to electoral reform. He reaffirmed the Police Force’s dedication to collaborating with stakeholders to ensure fair, secure, and inclusive elections across Nigeria.
