A leading chairmanship aspirant in the forthcoming Kogi State local government elections, Nathaniel Orayen Mosisuga, has pledged to prioritise grassroots development and the welfare of residents if elected to lead Ogori-Magongo Local Government Area.

Speaking at the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Press Centre in Lokoja on Wednesday, Mosisuga — contesting under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) — said his decision to enter the race was driven by a desire to serve the people meritoriously.
“This is the time to lay a solid foundation for Ogori-Magongo,” he said. “We must take development to the people and give priority to the wellbeing of our youth, women and the elderly.
“I am a social democrat who believes strongly in welfarism, especially ensuring that our elders have access to basic healthcare and local government support.”

Mosisuga added that politics and governance should not be left to the unemployed, urging all qualified citizens to participate in political leadership.
“Every capable person should get involved to help build our local councils, our state and the nation at large,” he said.
The APC aspirant also expressed concern over the neglect of traditional income-generating skills such as soap-making and cloth-weaving, which, he noted, once provided financial stability for women in the community.
The Abuja-based architect promised that, if elected, he would empower women to revive these trades as part of efforts to boost the local economy.
“Our people’s standard of living can be improved,” he said. “In the past, women earned income through soap-making, weaving and preparing local delicacies, but those ventures have been abandoned.
“I will support them to bring back those good days and revitalise Ogori-Magongo’s economy.”
