Kwara Orders Closure Of Schools In Five LGAs Over Insecurity

Ola ‘Kiya, Reporting

THE Kwara State Government has directed the immediate closure of schools across five local government areas in the Kwara South Senatorial District in response to rising security concerns.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Dr Lawal Olohungbebe, said the decision forms part of proactive measures taken by the government to ensure a safer learning environment for children.

According to him, the directive affects schools in Ifelodun, Ekiti, Irepodun, Isin, and Oke Ero Local Government Areas.

Dr Olohungbebe explained that the temporary closure underscores the government’s determination to frustrate the activities of kidnappers who might attempt to use schoolchildren as human shields amid intensified security operations in the region.

“The measures also cover boarding schools in Irepodun, which could be potential targets for criminals attempting to evade ongoing security crackdowns,” the statement added.

He said the directive would remain in effect pending further security clearance for the resumption of normal academic activities.
