A single-engine plane crashed in a wooded area at Wright Brothers National Memorial’s First Flight Airport, killing multiple persons.
In a news release, the park service said the airplane was trying to land at the airport Saturday evening when it crashed.
The airplane caught fire after the crash, according to NBC News.
The Kill Devil Hills Fire Department and other local fire departments put out the fire.
After the tragic incident, the airport was closed until further notice.
The National Transportation Safety Board said it will investigate the incident.
The Federal Aviation Administration has also been notified.
The Wright Brothers National Memorial was also closed Sunday.
