THE Kwara State Police Command has confirmed the killing of the chairman of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) in the state, Alhaji Idris Abubakar Sakaina, by some assailants.
The deceased, 32, was a former Special Assistant to the Moro Local Government Area chairman and a Youth Leader of the Fulani community in Kwara State.
The attack on the Miyyeti Allah chieftain was carried out at about 10:00 p.m. on Saturday in front of his residence at Oke Ose area of Ilorin, the state capital, Stonix News gathered.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Kwara State Police Command, Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, on Sunday, said that investigations had begun to unmask the killers.
“We received the information around 11:00p.m that by 10:00 p.m as he was entering his place of residence that he was ambushed by unknown gunmen, who shot at him.
“Before Police could get to the scene of the incident, the deed had already been done.
“Investigations are ongoing at the moment to arrest the suspects behind the dastardly act and bring them to justice.
“It’s an unfortunate one, but we hope to get them arrested. As I said, investigations are on to achieve this,” she said.
Reasons behind the killing are still in conjectures as the police image-maker said no arrest has been made, so far.
Meanwhile, the Special Assistant to the Kwara State governor on Inter-Community Relations (Fulani), Muhammed Abdullahi, has also confirmed the killing of the MACBAN chief.
The governor’s aide said: “Yes, he was killed in front of his residence on Saturday night by gunmen who left him for dead,” Abdullahi said.
“We are preparing for his janaza as I speak, but the police were here yesterday and have begun an investigation.”
The assailants reportedly ambushed the Miyyeti Allah chieftain and shot him at close range before fleeing the scene, leaving him in a pool of blood.
An eyewitness, Aina’u Sarki, said, “I was with him 20 minutes before he was killed. Someone called me on the phone and told me he had been shot dead.”
