The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), in collaboration with the MacArthur Foundation, has held a one-day training for the police on its role in carrying out the Administration of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA) of 2015 in Warri, Delta State.
The training with the theme “The Role of The Nigerian Police In Compliance with Principles of Human Rights In Law Enforcement,” brought together major stakeholders in the implementation of justice in the state.
Members of the legal profession and police officers were ably represented in the event on Monday at Park Royale Garden Hotel, Airport Road Warri.
Though the Chief Judge of Delta State, Hon. Justice Theresa O. Diai, was unavoidably absent, the Honourable Attorney-General, Mr. Isaiah Bozimo was represented by Mrs. E.J. Olowu.
In the same vein, the Commissioner of Police, Ari Muhammed Ali was represented by CSP Emmanuel Yakubu, who delivered a Goodwill message appreciating the organizers of the event on his behalf.
There were resource persons who who discussed the role of the police pertaining to the subject matter at length.
The speakers included: the Former Deputy Director, Legal and Investigation at National Human Rights Commission, Mr. Saka Azimazi; Advisor, Police Programme, GIZ, Africa-Nigeria, Mr. Idris Bawa, and the Secretary to the Human Rights Committee of the NBA. Mr. Bernard Oniga.
