THE Warri Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Delta State Council, has expressed deep appreciation to several individuals and institutions for their contributions towards the establishment and inauguration of its new secretariat, the High Chief Government Ekpemupolo Press Centre, in Warri, Delta State.
This was contained in a communiqué issued at the end of the Chapel’s maiden Congress held on Friday, July 4, 2025, at the new facility.

The Congress commended Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited (TSSNL) and its Chairman, High Chief Government Owiezide Ekpemupolo, popularly known as Tompolo, for building and equipping the befitting edifice. It noted that the facility would enhance the performance of journalists and promote credible journalism in Nigeria.
The Union also appreciated the role played by the Managing Director of TSSNL, High Chief Kestin Pondi, and Dr. Paul Benenimibo, Registrar of the Nigeria Maritime University, Okerenkoko, for working tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure that the dream became a reality.

Similarly, the Congress expressed gratitude to the Governor of Delta State, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, for officially inaugurating the centre, and also thanked the Executive Director, Projects of DESOPADEC, Olorogun Ebenezer Okorodudu PhD, for representing the Governor at the occasion.
In a show of deep appreciation, the chapel saluted its national leader and visionary, Asiwaju Sola Adebayo, a rare pathfinder of the journalism profession, for conceptualising and facilitating the project.
Also appreciated were the Orosuen of Okere-Urhobo Kingdom, Warri, His Royal Majesty, Oghenechuko Morris Eyekpimi, Owhotenu I, and the Ovie of Idjerhe Kingdom, His Majesty, King Monday Obukowho Whiskey PhD, Odurhie I, for their support and presence at the inauguration.

The Congress further commended the immediate past and current National Presidents of the NUJ, Comrades Chris Isiguzo and Alhassan Yahyah, respectively, for their roles in actualising the project. Delta State NUJ Chairman, Comrade Churchill Oyowe, was also lauded.
While acknowledging Governor Oborevwori’s landmark projects in the state, the Union lamented the poor condition of Eburu Street, the only access road to the new press centre.
It appealed to the Governor to reconstruct the road and urged the Warri Uvwie Environs Development Agency (WUEDA) to fast-track the ongoing road and drainage works at Eboh and adjoining streets in the Okumagba Avenue area.
The Congress also discussed the recurring flooding in Warri, Udu, Uvwie, and Okuokoko in Okpe LGA. It called on the Governor to urgently address the problem by constructing effective drainage systems alongside roads in the affected areas.
In addition, while commending the administration’s ongoing flyover projects at PTI Junction, Enerhen Junction, and DSC Roundabout, the Union urged Governor Oborevwori to direct the contractor, Julius Berger, to carry out remedial work on the Effurun Roundabout–DSC Roundabout stretch, which, it noted, has deteriorated into gullies, leading to significant loss of man-hours.
The communiqué was signed by the Communique Drafting Committee members: Ebenezer Adurokiya, Okpare Theophilus Onojeghen, and Matthew Omonigho.
