One Injured As Bus Passengers Escape Kidnappers’ Ambush In Kogi

A passenger sustained injuries during a failed kidnap attempt by suspected bandits on a commercial bus along the Ijowa–Mopo Road in Isanlu, Yagba East Local Government Area of Kogi State, on Sunday night, 2 November.

According to eyewitness accounts, the armed assailants emerged from the bush and attempted to halt the vehicle, but the driver manoeuvred swiftly, enabling all passengers to flee to safety under the cover of darkness.

Security operatives were later deployed to the scene, and with their assistance, the passengers returned the following morning to recover their belongings left behind in the confusion.

Confirming the incident, the Press Secretary to the Yagba East Local Government Chairman, Joshua Dare, said the council boss had since visited the injured victim at the General Hospital, Isanlu.

“The Chairman visited the victim this morning and has fully offset the medical expenses, which include ₦400,000 for treatment and surgical procedures, ₦52,570 for other internal charges, and the provision of the council’s ambulance, fuelled and dispatched to convey the victim to Lokoja for further care,” Dare stated.

The Yagba Federal Constituency in Kogi West has in recent months become a hotbed of insecurity, with frequent abductions and attacks by gunmen suspected to be armed herdsmen. The situation has forced many residents to scale down their economic and social activities.

Several kidnap victims are still in captivity, including Elder Omokore and his wife, who were abducted from their home about two weeks ago, as well as a prophet and his wife taken around the same period.
