AFROBEATS megastar Burna Boy has spoken candidly about his ongoing spiritual search, revealing that he once converted from Christianity to Islam in his quest for truth — a journey he admits has left him “more confused.”
In a recent interview with American streamer PlaqueBoyMax, the Grammy-winning singer said his decision to explore Islam came from a deep curiosity about life’s meaning and the origins of creation.
“I grew up as a Christian, but then I converted to Islam and all types. It’s like I have studied it all. I am still out here trying to find what is really going on,” he said.
The City Boys crooner explained that his wide-ranging study of religions and sacred texts has led him to question organised faith systems.
“Religion is a controlled mechanism. In all my research, there is always one scientific fact that goes against every book. Everything comes from the workshop of the sun,” he added.
Despite his doubts, Burna Boy described himself as deeply spiritual and said he maintains a personal relationship with a higher power.
“The more I researched, the more confused I got. All I know is that there’s something up there protecting me — that I am in tune with. That’s why when I pray, I feel like I’m being heard,” he said.
Burna Boy, who won the Grammy Award for Best Global Music Album in 2021 for Twice As Tall, recently released his eighth studio album titled No Sign of Weakness.
