The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Kaduna State has strongly denied allegations of vote buying during the recent bye-elections held in the Chikun/Kajuru Federal Constituency.
The denial comes amidst public speculation and social media reports suggesting that certain political parties may have attempted to influence voters through financial inducements.
However, no official statement has been traced to the PDP State Chairman, Edward Marshal, regarding the claims.
It is important to note that the Labour Party (LP) previously won the Chikun/Kajuru Federal Constituency seat during the 2023 general elections.
LP candidate Ekene Adams Abubakar secured victory with 57,725 votes, defeating the then-incumbent PDP representative, Yakubu Barde, who garnered 47,937 votes.
Tragically, the constituency was recently thrown into mourning following the untimely death of Ekene Adams, who was serving as a member of the House of Representatives and Chairman of the House Committee on Sports.
He passed away in the early hours of Tuesday at the age of 39.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has since scheduled a bye-election to fill the vacant seat, prompting renewed political activity in the constituency.
