Ola ‘Kiya, Reporting
The former Acting General Superintendent of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor J.H Abiona, who handed over to Pastor Enoch Adeboye as General Overseer, has passed.
Pa Abiona was the pastor who took over the affairs of RCCG in the interim shortly after the passing of the founder, Rev. Josiah Akindayomi, in 1980.
In spite of stiff contestations, he stood stoutly to do the divine bid and instruction of the founder to hand over to Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye as General Overseer in 1981.
Pa Abiona, before his demise on Saturday January 1, was a retired Deputy General Overseer of the commission.
He was also the oldest member of the church’s Governing Council and often regarded as the oldest living member of the church.
Although the RCCG mission has yet to officially confirm the incident, Stonix News reliably gathered that the 96-year-old cleric passed on Saturday.
Abiona was respected for his humility and commitment to the work of God in the church.
He was one of the very few people who pray for Pastor Adeboye and his wife, Foluke, during church programmes especially the annual March Special Holy Ghost Service, Convention and December Holy Ghost Congress.
His last outing was at the 2019 Holy Ghost Congress where he prayed for Daddy Adeboye and his wife and family.
