Phyna’s Sister Dies After Dangote Truck Accident

By Micheal Chukwuebuka

THE family of Big Brother Naija Season 7 winner, Ijeoma Josephina Otabor, popularly known as Phyna, has been thrown into mourning following the death of her younger sister, Ruth Otabor.

Ruth had been battling for her life for weeks after sustaining severe injuries in a Dangote truck accident that claimed multiple victims. She was initially treated in Edo State before being transferred to Lagos for specialised care.

Throughout her hospitalisation, Phyna repeatedly appealed for assistance, accusing the Dangote Group of neglecting her sister and other victims.

Her pleas, often shared on social media alongside activist VeryDarkMan (VDM), highlighted what she described as a lack of accountability and support for families affected by the crash.

Ruth’s passing has once again drawn attention to the recurring problem of road accidents in Nigeria, particularly those involving heavy-duty vehicles. Campaigners say the incident underscores the urgent need for improved road safety standards and greater corporate responsibility.

Phyna’s family, friends, and fans have expressed their grief, remembering Ruth as more than a casualty of the nation’s unsafe roads — but as a daughter, sister, and mother whose life was tragically cut short.

Funeral arrangements have yet to be announced.
