Plane Crashes Into Apartment Yard, Kills Pilot, Injures Passenger

A small plane crashed into an apartment yard late Sunday, killing one person in Savannah, Georgia.

According to Savannah police, the deceased was identified as the pilot, while a passenger suffered minor injuries.

No one on the ground was injured in the crash.

The aircraft is a 336 Cessna Skymaster registered out of Miami.

According to flight data, the plane had departed Miami en route to Savannah.

It happened Sunday night on the 200 block of E 66th Street.

Mayor Van Johnson of the city of Savannah, Georgia, via a post on his Facebook page, extended his condolences to the families of all victims:

“Our hearts are heavy as we mourn the loss of the pilot in last night’s tragic plane crash.

“We extend our deepest condolences to their family and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time.

“Our thoughts are also with the passenger, wishing them a swift recovery and healing.

“We are grateful that no one on the ground was harmed, a small blessing in such a tragic event.

“A heartfelt thank you to Savannah Fire Department and Savannah Police Department who acted swiftly and bravely in the face of this emergency.

“Your dedication and courage are deeply appreciated.

“Let’s come together as a community to support those affected and honor the life lost.”
