Residents Narrate How Nigerian Army Drone Wiped Out 34 Family Members

RESIDENTS of Tudun Biri village in Igabi Local Government Area, Kaduna State, have thrown more lights on the tragic incident that occurred on Sunday, leaving scores dead.

The Nigerian Army had mistakenly dropped two bombs via a drone on folks celebrating Maulud in Tudun Biri village in Igabi LGA, Kaduna, resulting.

Residents recounted the harrowing sequence of events, describing how the army struck twice, with a 30-minute interval between the two bombings.

Hajiya Aisha from Tudun Biri said the second bomb caught many first responders in its whirlpool, aggravating the accident.

Another resident, Idris Dahiru, expressed grief, stating that his family alone lost no fewer than 34 members to the tragic incident.

He said that as villagers rushed to aid the injured after the first bomb landed, the second bomb worsened the casualties, particularly affecting those who were first responders.

The army has, however, acknowledged its error, disclosing that the bombing occurred during a routine operation against terrorists.

Consequently, President Bola Tinubu had earlier ordered a probe into the Tudun Biri bombing, responding to growing criticism over the military’s recurrent unintended civilian casualties.

The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, on Tuesday, had also visited the troubled community to empathise and commiserate with the bereaved.

Stonix News reports that Sunday incident echoes previous tragic events, including a 2021 airstrike on armed bandits that killed wedding guests in error, and a January 2023 bombing that claimed over 100 civilians.

Amid calls for accountability, the affected villagers are said to be grappling with the aftermath of Sunday’s massacre, with 66 injured individuals said to be currently receiving medical care at Barau Dikko Hospital.
