SENATOR Seriake Dickson has pledged to engage with Senate leadership to resolve the suspension of Senator Natasha Akpoti Uduaghan, following a visit to her home on Friday evening.
Dickson, a former governor of Bayelsa State, explained that he was unable to attend Thursday’s Senate plenary, where the Ethics Committee’s report recommending Uduaghan’s suspension was considered, as he was attending a three-day workshop on Tax Reform Bills.
“I was assured by the Committee Chairman that the hearing on her case would be held on Wednesday, 11th March, and notices had already been issued. I was not notified of the emergency seating yesterday,” he stated.
After concluding the retreat, Dickson led a delegation of opposition senators to meet Uduaghan and her husband, expressing solidarity and discussing possible steps forward.
“Senators, as humans, have their low and high moments, and it is a tradition for us to support each other during these times,” he said.
He added that, after hearing Uduaghan’s perspective, he would consult with colleagues to explore avenues for intervention.
“I will engage with the leadership of the Senate to resolve the issues as soon as possible,” Dickson affirmed.
