Muhammed Abubakar, Reporting
SIX more abducted students of the Confluence University of Science and Technology (CUSTECH), Osara, Kogi State, have been rescued while four are still at large.
The Kogi State government, through Kingsley Femi Fanwo, Commissioner for Information and Communications, made the disclosure on Tuesday.
The information brings the total number of kidnapped students rescued so far to 20.
Stonix News reports that the development is contrary to initial claims by Fanwo that only nine students were kidnapped when marauders invaded lecture halls where students were preparing for examinations billed for Monday May 13.
Fanwo, as usual, claimed that the fierce gun battle between security agents and the kidnappers forced the kidnappers to succumb to the superior firepower of the former leading to the abandonment of the kidnapped students, adding that some of the kidnappers escaped with severe injuries.
“Nine students had been rescued first, while five others were found the following morning. The families of the six students just rescued have confirmed that the students have arrived home.
“The governor of Kogi State, Alh Ahmed Usman Ododo, has expressed deep appreciation to the Joint Forces that carried out the operations, urging them to continue the search until the last student is found.
“We wish to assure the public that the security architecture around our schools has been recalibrated for efficiency and early warning alarms to prevent future occurrences.
