Super Falcons Qualify for 2025 WAFCON After 1–1 Draw with Benin

Nigeria’s Super Falcons have sealed their place at the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) following a 1–1 draw with Benin Republic at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja, on Thursday. The result ensured the nine-time African champions advanced 3–1 on aggregate.

Ashleigh Plumptre gave Nigeria the lead in the first half with a towering header from a corner kick, reaffirming her growing influence in the squad. However, Benin Republic restored parity after the interval to claim a point, though it was not enough to overturn the deficit from the first leg, which the Super Falcons had won 2–0 in Cotonou.

With the aggregate victory, Nigeria joined other top African nations in booking their spots at next year’s continental showpiece. Elsewhere, Ghana cruised past Egypt with a 4–0 triumph, Malawi recorded a 2–0 win over Angola, while Tanzania pulled off a shock 1–0 victory away to Ethiopia. Kenya and Burkina Faso also secured slim 1–0 wins over Gambia and Togo respectively, as Cameroon were held to a goalless draw by Algeria.

The qualification sets the stage for an electrifying 2025 WAFCON tournament, where the Super Falcons will be aiming to extend their record by winning an unprecedented 11th continental title.
