Lapai, Niger State – The academic community and the general public are set to converge on the campus of Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University, Lapai, for its 27th Inaugural Lecture, which promises a deep dive into the transformative power of language.
Scheduled to hold on Wednesday, 25th March, 2026, the lecture will be delivered by Professor Ebenezer Oluseun Ogungbe, a renowned Professor of Discourse Analysis and Social Semiotics from the Department of English.
In a lecture titled “Bridling the Unbridled Tongues for Idyllic and Productive Living: A Critical Discourse Analyst’s Yoke,” Professor Ogungbe is expected to dissect the complex role of language in society. The title suggests a compelling exploration of how unchecked speech can be moderated to foster harmony and efficiency, drawing on the rigorous frameworks of critical discourse analysis.
The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Mohammed Hadi Sulaiman, extending an invitation on behalf of the Senate, Management, Staff, and Students of the university, has cordially invited the general public to attend the prestigious academic event.
The lecture will take place at the IBB University Auditorium, Main Campus, Lapai, commencing promptly at 2:00 pm. Guests are, however, requested to be seated by 1:30 pm to ensure a smooth start.

Professor Ogungbe, of set 2001, graduated from the Department of English, University of Ibadan, where he also obtained his masters and PhD.
