Thirty-Two Presidential Amnesty Scholars Earn First-Class, 134 Upper Second-Class Honours

Rita Enemuru, Reporting

Thirty-two students sponsored by the Presidential Amnesty Programme have secured first-class degrees in a range of competitive courses at Nigerian universities in 2025.

A statement issued by Mr Igoniko Oduma, Senior Special Assistant to the Administrator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme, confirmed that no fewer than 134 additional beneficiaries graduated with upper second-class honours in the same academic year.

The disciplines represented include law, pharmacy, aeronautical engineering, cybersecurity, electrical engineering, software engineering, nursing science, mechanical engineering, architecture, accounting and criminology.

Others are computer science, anatomy, international relations and diplomacy, geography and regional planning, microbiology, public health, information technology, medical laboratory science, estate management and mass communication.

The Administrator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme, Dr Dennis Brutu Otuaro, praised the sponsored students for their first-class and upper second-class achievements across various fields.

He expressed delight at their impressive academic records, noting that their discipline and commitment had greatly encouraged his administration.

Dr Otuaro said the beneficiaries’ academic successes formed part of the broader accomplishments of the programme in advancing human capital development and fostering peace in the Niger Delta.

He described their results as evidence of the sound educational objectives underpinning the scholarship scheme and the wider PAP mandate, adding that the outcomes aligned with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

He said the scholars had justified the investment made in their education and brought pride to the Federal Government, the PAP Office, their communities and the Niger Delta.

The PAP administrator attributed the students’ achievements to President Tinubu’s steadfast support for the programme and the effective oversight of the National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu.

He urged current PAP scholars at various universities to follow the example of their predecessors and apply themselves diligently to sustain the programme’s strong academic record.

Dr Otuaro said: “We are truly delighted with the outstanding academic results of our scholarship students in 2025. The number of beneficiaries from the Niger Delta who have achieved first-class and upper second-class degrees is highly encouraging. We commend them all for their remarkable feats.

“These commendable academic outcomes reflect our focused implementation of the PAP mandate to transform the Niger Delta through education and vocational training.

“We extend our profound appreciation to His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR. Without his unwavering support, these impressive academic accomplishments and the many success stories we celebrate would not have been possible.

“We also thank the Office of the National Security Adviser for its effective supervision of the programme, in keeping with Mr President’s Renewed Hope Agenda for the people of the Niger Delta.

“In Mr President, we have a listening leader who has demonstrated through action that the Niger Delta is a priority for his administration. He has given precedence to agencies in the region, alongside ongoing work on the trans-Niger Delta Highway from Lagos to Calabar.

“The people of the Niger Delta are grateful to Mr President and his administration for what they are doing for the region, and will, in due course, express their appreciation appropriately.”
