Tension As Appeal Court Set To Deliver Judgement On Rivers Governorship Election

Ola ‘Kiya, Reporting

TENSION is currently building up in Rivers State as a Court of Appeal sitting in Lagos State will on Tuesday (today) deliver judgment on the governorship election petition filed by the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Patrick Tonye-Cole, against Governor Siminalayi Fubara of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Recall that recently the APC executives and structure in the state were dissolved as they were allegedly collapsed under the leadership of the current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.

The development had set tongues wagging following the ongoing feud between Governor Fubara and his estranged godfather, Wike over political structure in the state.

The Friday judgment date is barely two weeks after the two parties had argued and adopted their final written addresses.

Cole wants the court to direct INEC to declare him the winner of the March 18 governorship election in Rivers State.

He insists that Fubara was still signing documents as the Accountant-General of the state even after his nomination as the governorship candidate of the PDP.

He has also alleged some irregularities in the election, among other pleas.
