Terrorists Abduct Students Going For Exams At Kaduna State University

Muhammed Abubakar, Reporting

Scores of travellers, among whom were students, going for School of Health entrance examination at the Kaduna State University, Makarfi have been abducted by terrorists.

The alarm was raised by the Birnin Gwari Emirate Progressive Union (BEPU) which disclosed that the victims were abducted Tuesday morning.

This was contained in a statement issued by the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the BEPU, Idris Saidu and made available to journalists in Kaduna on Tuesday.

He said the bandits had laid siege on three different locations on the highway, forcing motorists to make a u-turn, while the unlucky ones fell into the trap and were subsequently abducted.

The statement disclosed that the scores of travellers and students so abducted were billed to write examinations for admission to School of Health, Makarfi, which is affiliated to the Kaduna State university.

According to BEPU, one of their officials, Abubakar Haruna Babaji, who was one of victims that escaped, said no fewer than eight vehicles were set ablaze by the bandits after abducting all the passengers.

BEPU has, therefore, advised intending travellers to either suspend their journey or use other possible alternative routes, saying “as large number of bandits are currently stationed on the road at about three different locations.

“‘This advice should not be taken for granted for security of lives and properties of our people.

The statement further noted that due to the barricade of the road, “some of our students who are to attend entrance exams at School of Health in Makarfi this morning, could not make it, while some of them have been abducted.”

However, through the intervention of Malam Mu’azu Idris, the group said the school authority has agreed to reschedule the date for the exams to a later date.

The group, therefore, called on the local government and, especially political leaders and representatives to draw the attention of authorities to the deteriorating security situation along major roads and rural communities which have been taken over by dislodged and rampaging terrorists from other parts of the country.
