Terrorists Caught in crossfire as troops strike hideouts in Plateau State

Muhammed Abubakar, Reporting

WASE – Security forces have dealt a bloody blow to insurgent networks in Plateau State, neutralising two suspected terrorists and dismantling a string of criminal hideouts after fierce clashes across the region.

Troops of Operation ENDURING PEACE, acting under the wider Operation WUTAN DAJI, stormed known insurgent strongholds in Wase Local Government Area on 4 April 2026. Backed by local vigilantes, the joint force swept through Babangida, Adua and Bokayi villages inside the sprawling Dutsen Zaki forest.

The operation turned violent along the Babangida–Adua road, where soldiers engaged an armed terrorist group in a ferocious firefight. Overwhelmed by superior firepower, two suspects were killed on the spot. Several others scrambled back into the dense forest, dragging gunshot wounds behind them.

A search of the battleground unearthed a locally made firearm, a belt packed with 105 rounds of 7.62mm PKT ammunition, 30 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, and a cutlass.

SUSPECTS CUT DOWN BY OWN SIDE

In a separate pre-dawn operation on 5 April, troops stationed in Namu District of Qua’an Pan Local Government Area moved on intelligence about armed individuals moving suspiciously. At roughly 7:45am, they intercepted four suspected terrorists.

A body search revealed 100 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition. But as soldiers manoeuvred to dismantle the suspects’ hideout, the unit came under heavy fire from the terrorists’ associates.

In the ensuing chaos, three of the four detained men tried to flee – and were promptly cut down by bullets from their own accomplices.

KIDNAP LINK PROBE

Later the same morning, around 9:35am, troops in Shendam Local Government Area worked with local residents to snatch a suspected kidnapper at Gidan Mangoro village. The man is believed to be connected to a kidnapping on 3 April 2026.

All suspects now in custody are being held for further investigation and potential legal proceedings.

Captain Chinonso Polycarp Oteh, Media Information Officer for the operation, said the raids showed the military’s unshakeable resolve to restore peace across Plateau State. He urged citizens to stay alert and report anything suspicious to the nearest security post as clearance operations continue.
