Another destructive fire outbreak has, late Thursday, gutted another filling station in Awka, the capital city of Anambra State.
This is coming barely two weeks after the tragic fire outbreak that razed two filing stations in Onitsha, in the state,
Stonix News gathered that the fire broke out at Mobil Fuel Station located at the popular Unizik Junction along Enugu—Onitsha Expressway.
It, however, swiftly spread to other nearby shops and plazas.
Witnesses said the inferno started when a fuel tanker was discharging petrol at the spacious fuel station, where other vehicles were also on the queue, waiting for their turn.
The petrol tanker, few other vehicles at the station and some motorcycles were all burnt beyond recognition.
Traders and shop owners at St. Frances Plaza and other nearby plazas were seen hurriedly evacuating their stocks with the help of sympathizers, just as the fire escalated close to their shops and goods.
Parts of the shops were also affected by the fire, but no life was lost.
Meanwhile, the men and officers of the Anambra State Fire Service, who arrived the scene, were seen battling the fire.
Unavailability of enough water was said to have somewhat frustrated their efforts and early intervention.
Other law enforcement agencies, including the Federal Road Safety Corps and the Police cordoned off the area and assisted in human and vehicular control to prevent hoodlums from looting.
