Stonix News reports that the unusually patriotic Nigerian decked his Keke with the green and white Nigerian flag in the spirit of the season.

Ekporogun said that, while others were making brisk money by taking advantage of the high cost of fuel, his act was not only to put smiles on the faces of people, but his own little but sacrificial way of giving back to society.

He noted that since the fuel subsidy was removed, people were finding it difficult to pay for transportation and that was why he had to save up N35,000 for purchasing fuel for this act.

He said that he felt sad whenever he saw an old woman lapping her 25-year-old daughter because she was unable to afford two seats owing to the economic situation in the country.

Hear him: “My name is Ekporogun Onome from Orogun, Ughelli North Local Government Area.

“I just want to dedicate this very day, our independence day, to every Nigerian.

“That’s why I am carrying passengers free of charge, today (Tuesday).

“I want to put smiles on people’s faces and I want to use this day as a giveaway back to society.

“I noticed that a lot of people can no longer afford to pay for transport because of the economic situation of the country.

“You will see an old woman lapping her 25-year-old daughter because she can’t afford transportation for both of them.

“I am not motivated by anybody to do this. I have been saving money for fuel for this very day for the past four days.

“I bought fuel for N1,200 today (Tuesday). I normally buy N4,500 worth of fuel.

“I am shuttling Udu, Airport Road, Round About and then Jakpa Road. So, I budgeted N35,000 fuel for today (Tuesday).”

He has this admonition for all Nigerians:

“I just want to tell every Nigerian that no matter where they find themselves, try with the little you can to put smiles on people’s faces.

“At least sacrifice little for government and not wait for only government to do for you,” he advised.
